“Creating an accessible template for a clinical trial is important. It will standardise the approach for trials and offer the benefit of using a tried and tested formula which will appeal to a wide audience. I believe this will benefit all parties, both medical and future trial participants. This accessible template will improve the message of why the trial is important, increasing the catchment and attracting more trial participants from a broader sector, resulting in improved trial outcomes.”

“It’s important people have information in language that they can understand because not everybody understands like technical medical terms. But to be sort of like simple straight down to the point then they ‘Oh yeah, we go for this research trial. Oh no, we won’t.’ Rather than thinking what on Earth does that word mean? […] It makes it simpler for everyone to make the decision. That’s another reason why it’s important to have it in these formats with like images that represent it, so that people, if they cannot sort of read very well or struggle to sort of read lots of text, they can look at the picture.”

“The MAPLE project has made a meaningful difference to our South Asian community, who were involved from start to finish in shaping the information and visuals used. Their input helped ensure that research trials are inclusive and accessible to all citizens. The project actively engaged with our community group to discuss and gather feedback on what should be included in the leaflet—both in terms of content and imagery—to reflect the diversity of participants across age, gender, disability, and ethnicity.”

“It was a pleasure working with Cat and the team. The Chinese community is often overlooked in clinical trials due to various barriers, such as culture and language — many aren’t even aware these opportunities exist. Through two focus groups, we gathered valuable feedback on patient information leaflets, aiming to make them clearer and more accessible. The conversations were engaging, and the community felt heard and valued. We hope this contributes to a more inclusive study and ultimately leads to better, more accessible treatments for all.”
